Draper Irrigation Company – Water Pro   (From Wheadon Farm Appraisal - Wells Fargo)

The Draper Irrigation Company provides both culinary water and irrigation water for the City of Draper.  There are two water systems, one that provides clean water for household use and the pressurized irrigation system that uses Utah Lake water that is less than clean.  Water Pro manages the water systems and Draper Irrigation Company owns the water rights that are used in the systems.

In 1993 a pressure irrigation system replaced the gravity flow system and it became Draper City’s secondary water system for irrigation.  The City requires 3 shares of water stock for each acre.  The average delivery is one acre foot per share which is adequate when a sprinkling irrigation system is used.  The new pressurized irrigation system is a lot more expensive than what he had been paying in the old gravity flow Draper Irrigation Company.

The annual operating cost of using the Draper Irrigation is $40 per month ($480/year) for the first acre and $6 per month ($72/Ac/year) for the remaining acres under greenbelt.   That’s on the high side for agricultural production.

The advantage to this system is that the water is in a pressurized pipeline therefore can be used for sprinkler irrigation and it is available at any time of the day or night.  The water can be applied when the crops need it.
